Junior Designer

MacDonald Architects, specializing in bridge design and mixed use housing, seeks a junior designer with 3-5 years of experience working in an architecture office. Successful candidates will coordinate documents, drawings, and correspondence for various projects as an intermediary between the Principal and various project partners (engineers, contractors, subs, etc). Applicant should be organized and must be able to juggle multiple projects and tasks.

MacDonald Architects has a broad history of architectural projects; however the bulk of our work at this time is in bridge design. Candidates should be aware that bridge projects, like many large scale projects have a long project timeline. It should also be known that this position does not require an extremely strong engineering background and knowledge; however it is required to have a general understanding in order to work closely with structural and civil engineers. The applicant must have a strong portfolio and be willing to work on a variety of projects simultaneously. Good leadership, communication and people skills are required. Portfolios should be shown at interview.

Requirements:

• Degree in Architecture, or similar design background
• 3-5 years of experience in an architectural office environment
• Ability to quickly translate ideas into 3D drawings and models
• Experience in all construction phases
• Ability to produce working drawings with ArchiCAD and AutoCAD
• Proficient in ArchiCAD, AutoCAD, Sketchup, Photoshop, Microsoft Office Suite
• Experience working with engineers and engineering drawings a plus
• Expert model makers a plus
