blood alley
vancouver, canada
This competition was for the City of Vancouver to develop a temporary performing arts space in Blood Alley. The design pays homage to the Canadian explorer, Simon Fraser, and his discovery of Hell's Gateway through the raging white-water rapids while descending to the rich valleys of the Lower-Mainland of British Columbia. Both the canyon and the "alley" have the same rugged and confining expression created by the walls of massive material towering over the passersby.
The structure is constructed with 940 tubes of aluminum scaffolding and swivel clamps allow the tubes to join at any angle, covered wtih white shrink wrap film a total of 600m2 to cover horizontal and vertical surfaces.
