third street bridge

Donald MacDonald Architects provided aesthetic design assistance to J. Muller International, the engineers for the Third Street Bridge, an arched reinforced concrete box girder over the Napa River in Napa, California.
The Third Street Bridge design was built with community participation to ensure that a beautiful bridge would be built in harmony with its downtown urban plan. The new bridge serves as the gateway to Napa and the connecting link from the downtown area to the exhibition grounds. Because of the bridge's high traffic location, the community wanted to make the bridge pedestrian and bicycle friendly.
As shown in the images above, the belvedere overlook encourages people to stop and enjoy the surrounding river environment. These overlooks are integrated as a part of a new esplanade that connects the riverfront public park, walkway, and trail system.
